What is DSC (digital signature certificate)?

A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is a secure digital key that is issued by the certifying authorities for the purpose of validating and certifying the identity of the person holding this certificate. Digital Signatures make use of the public key encryptions to create the signatures.

A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) contains information about the user’s name, pin code, country, email address, date of issuance of the certificate, and name of the certifying authority.

Types of Digital Signature Certificates

Sign: Signing via DSC gives the assurance of not only the integrity of the signer but also the data. It is proof of untampered and unaltered data.

Encrypt: Encrypt DSC can only be used to encrypt a document, it is popularly used in the tender portal, to help companies encrypt the documents and upload them.

Sign & Encrypt: Our Sign & Encrypt DSC can be used for both signing and encrypting.

According to the new guidelines released by CCA, CA can issue only Class 3 DSC to their clients.

Yes, you can have multiple digital signature certificates for professional and personal use. You will be provided a certificate under class 3.

  • You should visit certifying authority website, then it will show up digital signature certification section, you have to choose which type of entity you need to obtain a certificate. If you applying for individual then click individual
  • Then the DSC form will appear to download that and fill the form will all the necessary information such as,
  1. Class of DSC 
  2. Validity
  3. Type of certificate.
  4. Applicant name and contact details.
  5. Applicant address.
  6. GST number.
  7. The identity number of proof documents.
  8. Declaration.
  9. Identity proof.
  10. Address proof.
  11. Payment details.
  12. Attested officer details
  • After filling in all the details attest to your recent photograph and sign the form check before submission and take a photocopy of the form and preserve it.
  • Ensure that proof that you have given for identity and address must be attested by an attested officer.
  • You must pay through demand drafting or cheque for application of DSC to local certifying authority available near your place.
  • You must envelop and post it to a local certifying authority, it should include
  1. DSC application form
  2. Address and identity proof attested by an officer.
  3. Payment cheque and demand draft.
  • Now you have successfully completed your DSC application.
  • If you want to change any details you need to login into your account, select ' change DSC details', fill in new details, and select it
  • The certifying authorities will take a minimum of 3 to 7 working days for issuing the digital signature certificates.

A Digital Signature Certificate is an electronic instrument that is certified by the holder of the certificate. It is issued by certifying authority. It contains details such as the name of the holder, address, pin code, date of issuance of the certificate, and name of certifying authority

It doesn't appear that Digital Signatures will replace handwritten signatures. Handwritten signatures are cheap, easy to understand, and last forever.
