What is DSC (digital signature certificate)?

A digital signature certificate is an electronic instrument that is certified by the holder of the certificate. It is issued by certifying authority. It contains details such as the name of the holder, address, pin code, date of issuance of the certificate, and name of certifying authority

How Many Types of digital signature certificates are in India?

According to the need of a person, he should select the type of certificate required for him and it will be issued by certifying authority. The types of certificate are given below,

  • Class 1:  Certificate is issued to individuals and private subscribers only for basic details such as name, e-mail address to the provider.
  • Class 2:  Certificate is issued to directors and signatory authorities for filing ROC. It is mandatory to have a class 2 certificate for signing the roc return. From 1/1/2021, it is said that class 2 certificates are replaced by class 3.
  • Class 3:  Certificate is issued to people who bid in online auctions and attend online tenders.

Documents Required for DSC?

  • A duly filled DSC application form must be submitted.
  • ID proof.
  • Address proof.

How to Register a Digital Signature Certificate?

  • You should visit certifying authority website, then it will show up digital signature certification section, you have to choose which type of entity you need to obtain a certificate. If you applying for individual then click individual
  • Then the DSC form will appear to download that and fill the form will all the necessary information such as,
  1. Class of DSC 
  2. Validity
  3. Type of certificate.
  4. Applicant name and contact details.
  5. Applicant address.
  6. GST number.
  7. The identity number of proof documents.
  8. Declaration.
  9. Identity proof.
  10. Address proof.
  11. Payment details.
  12. Attested officer details
  • After filling in all the details attest to your recent photograph and sign the form check before submission and take a photocopy of the form and preserve it.
  • Ensure that proof which you have given for identity and address must be attested by an attested officer.
  • You must pay through demand drafting or cheque for application of DSC to local certifying authority available near your place.
  • You must envelop and post it to a local certifying authority, it should include
  1. DSC application form
  2. Address and identity proof attested by an officer.
  3. Payment cheque and demand draft.
  • Now you have successfully completed your DSC application.
  • If you want to change any details you need to login into your account, select ' change DSC details', fill in new details, and select it
  • The certifying authorities will take a minimum of 3 to 7 working days for issuing the digital signature certificates.

Can I renew my DSC?

Yes, you can, you should apply 7 days prior expiry of the digital certificate. You can renew only with the existing name no changes in other details except contact and address details.

Can I have multiple digital signature certificates?

Yes, you can have multiple digital signature certificates for professional and personal use. You will be provided a certificate under class 3.

How long does it take to renew DSC?

  • The certificate is valid for 1 or 2 years depending upon the class you choose.
